Learning, imitative

Current Definition
Imitative learning is a first stage of cultural learning in which, for instance, a 9 month old child treats another person as an agent who intends some object and the child takes up the perspective of the other person and shares the focus on the object. Imitative learning goes beyond emulation, where a child does not share the adult's intentionality but simply observes a new affordance and takes advantage of it. Imitative learning also goes beyond mimicry, where a child merely imitates an adult's motions but does not share the adult's goals in performing the motions.
